Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen his Liverpool back line ahead of the upcoming Premier League season and German left-back Jonas Hector is a target for the Merseyside club.
The defender plays his football for Bundesliga side Koln and is currently away with the German national team at Euro 2016 preparing for their mouth-watering semi-final showdown with France on Thursday.
According to German outlet Express, Tottenham are also keen on signing the 26-year-old and could use their Champions League qualification as a bargaining chip over their rivals.
Hector’s recent performances on a club and national level have seen his stock rise considerably, with the defender now valued at £17 million.
Koln’s manager, Peter Stoeger, however isn’t too surprised Hector has turned out to be a top player.
“He is now perhaps more in focus, but those who know him always knew in advance that he is a good player,” Stoeger said.
Hector made 34 appearances in all competitions for Koln last season and recently scored the deciding spot kick in Germany’s quarter-final penalty shootout against Italy last week.
Liverpool have already signed Sadio Mane from Southampton for an estimated £34m and also brought in Schalke defender Joel Matip on a free transfer.
