On Tuesday morning, Jose Mourinho gave his first press conference as the new Manchester United manager… and it went down a storm.
The Special One is already receiving rave reviews as the new man in charge at Old Trafford after speaking with authority, confidence and conviction at his first official meeting with the media.
Mourinho sounded not only like a man who knew what he was doing, but for the first time in three years, the watching world got the feeling that they were actually listening to a Manchester United manager.
The former Chelsea boss addressed a number of key issues on the minds of United fans discussing the departure of Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney’s position next season and how he sees his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson developing going forward.
However, what many were most intrigued by was the open and up front manner with which Mourinho addressed United’s transfer plans. Speaking about the club’s signings, the Special One stated that the club has already sown up three out of the four targets that they identified at the beginning of the summer.
With Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic confirmed, it is now simply a matter of time before the club officially announces the signing of Henrikh Mhikitaryan from Borussia Dortmund. However, when it comes to United’s fourth target, there are some question marks.
JM: "I want specialists. From this four, we have 3. Until we have the fourth we are working hard on that." – that's Pogba

The general acceptance among supporters and the media alike is that Mourinho is desperate to bring in Paul Pogba from Juventus for a world record fee and Sky Sports reported as much yesterday. However, according to top French publication L’Equipe, this is actually not the case.

Guillaume Dufy, a journalist with l’Equipe tweeted on Tuesday evening that the French coaching staff have denied Matuidi permission to complete a medical with United but that the PSG midfielder is in fact Mourinho’s real target.
Some bookies are now so confident that the 29-year-old midfielder will join United this summer that they have him odds on to make the switch.

If Matuidi is off to England, MUFC makes sense. Krychowiak's got his place at PSG, Matuidi's a Mourinho-style player & Raiola represents him

When Mourinho says he wants "specialists" over "multi-functional" players, Matuidi surely makes much more sense than Pogba #mufc

I might be getting a tad greedy here, but imagine United signed Matuidi and Pogba. jeepers

If any united fans think we'd be worse off having Matuidi instead of Basti then you should stick to FIFA. BS cant stay fit!!. #mufc
