A host of former players had their say on Saturday night’s Champions League final between Real Madrid and Juventus recently.

UEFA asked former Champions League stars for their predictions on the final in Cardiff, and while some sat on the fence many gave an outright prediction.

Here are some of the more straightforward picks:

Christian Karembeu – Real Madrid

Pavel Nedved – Juventus

Marcel Desailly – Juventus

Ciro Ferrara – Juventus

Patrik Andersson – Juventus

Edgar Davids – Real Madrid

Eidur Gudjohnsen – Juventus

Andriy Shevchenko – Juventus

Steve McManaman – Real Madrid

Ian Rush – Juventus

Robert Pires – Real Madrid

Phil Thompson – Juventus

Steffan Freund – Juventus (on penalties)

Cafu – draw (no specification of what would happen after)

So the final results are, according to the above former players:

Juventus 9-4 Real Madrid

Many of the experts go against the bookies’ logic, but then loyalties must be taken into account as well as the fact that many of the former winners/players asked will have vested interest in the encounter.

It is interesting to note that many of the players are confident in Juve’s ability to shut down the Madrid attack and catch them on the break.

Time will soon tell.
