Liverpool’s move for Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum moved a step closer this morning as the two clubs agreed a transfer fee.
The Reds will be paying £25m to bring the Dutch international to Anfield after one season at St. James’ Park, thereby making him Jurgen Klopp’s sixth signing since becoming the side’s manager.
While the deal has not been publicly announced by either party, Wijnaldum’s brother has appeared to jump the gun a bit by releasing a picture of the the 25-year-old in a Liverpool shirt.

The image was deleted from Giordon Wijnaldum’s Twitter feed soon after, but it does seem only a matter of time now before the transfer is confirmed.
Wijnaldum played the final ten minutes of Newcastle’s friendly in Doncaster last night, but it looks as though that will be his last act as a Newcastle player.
Multiple sources have confirmed that he is due for a medical, which will probably today given the fact that publicity photos are already being taken, before being properly unveiled as a Liverpool player soon after.
He, along with fellow new signing Ragnar Klavan, is expected to play his first game for Liverpool in next week’s pre-season friendly against Chelsea in Pasadena.
