Latest Ozil & Giroud Stats Suggest Arsenal Pair Are Most Lethal Duo In The Premier League

After Arsenal beat Sunderland 3-1 yesterday afternoon, a number of stats arose highlighting just how important Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are to Arsene Wenger’s side.

Mesut Ozil is in simply ludicrous form for Arsenal this season and many have suggested that the Arsenal playmaker is a serious contender for the player of the season award. However, although Olivier Giroud is not as adored by the Arsenal faithful, his goal yesterday gave rise to a stat that underlines just how prolific the Frenchman has been over the past few seasons.

The talk of Mesut Ozil of late has, quite rightly, been all about his phenomenal assist rate. A number of weeks back, the news was confirmed that Ozil had broken the record for assisting in the most consecutive Premier League games.

In October, it was also confirmed that Ozil now has the best games per assist rate in Premier League history. At the time, the German was averaging one assist per every 2.71 matches played. Since then, we can only imagine that ratio has improved significantly.

Yesterday, two new stats added to the mythic status of Ozil’s current form.

However, Mesut Ozil isn’t the only one who deserves credit for Arsenal’s performance yesterday. After scoring a clumsy own goal for Sunderland, Olivier Giroud redeemed himself excellently with a tidy header to put Arsenal back in front.

After the game, both Squawka and Opta released fascinating stats about the often misunderstood Frenchman suggesting that he is in fact, up there with the very best in the league.
