Roma defender Kostas Manolas is the latest player to be linked with a move to Manchester United as rumours of Mourinho’s arrival gain momentum…
While Daley Blind has been an able centre-back for the Red Devils this season, it is common knowledge that the club is understood to be interested in signing a genuine centre-back to partner Chris Smalling, not least after failing to entice Sergio Ramos to Old Trafford last Summer.
Manolas appears well equipped to fill this gap in the United squad. The Greek defender has been in fine form for the Italian club this season and so, recent reports that the player’s agent was in talks with emissaries from Old Trafford should come as no surprise.
. @DiMarzio has supposedly reported that Man Utd have met with Kostas Manolas’ agent. Mourinho’s Chelsea had a bid rejected for him in Sept.

Chelsea are also thought to be interested in the former Olympiacos defender. Not only did José Mourhinho see an offer for the player rejected last September, but incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is a big fan of the 24 year old, and given the eminent departure of John Terry from the club, Manolas would be an ideal replacement.
Despite this, Manchester United appear front-runners for Manolas’ signature and, given Mourinho’s known admiration for the player, the Calciomercato report has already added to the growing suspicion that the former Chelsea boss is set to take the helm at Old Trafford.
