Play-off chasing LA Galaxy have yet to sit down and finalise the immediate futures of overseas veterans Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane, according to manager Bruce Arena.

Both men have played an important role with the MLS side since arriving from the Premier League – Gerrard in January of 2015 and more so Keane, who signed in the summer of 2011 – but a decision on whether or not they will remain on with the squad beyond the end of the current season has yet to be made.

Gerrard was initially thought to be unsettled in the US but insisted in May that he was now used to the change in lifestyle in an interview with the LA Times newspaper.

Before those comments, it was rumoured that the midfielder could return to England – specifically Liverpool – sooner than expected and take on a coaching role; however, in that same interview he revealed that he had not spoken to any other club at that stage.

Keane, for his part, recently retired from international football with the Republic of Ireland but has also expressed hope that he could continue to play with Galaxy for another while yet, even telling Sky Sports that he would look elsewhere for another deal if his current home were no longer interested in retaining his services.

Sharing an update on the situation, Arena said that there is no particular hurry to speak to the pair right now – as Galaxy focus on securing a play-off spot – but that talks will be held at the end of the current campaign.

Speaking at a season ticket member event for the club, Arena explained that one of the club’s three Designated Players, Giovani dos Santos, will still be contracted to Galaxy next season while the futures of both Gerrard and Keane are not yet settled on.

“Robbie Keane and Steven Gerrard are out of contract at the end of the year, and we’re going to sit down with them and make decisions from that. If we have any available spots, we’re certainly going to be aggressive.”

LA Galaxy will secure a play-off berth on Sunday night should they defeat west coast rivals Seattle Sounders.
