Preston North End house a significant proportion of Irish players right now, with Greg Cunningham, Andy Boyle, Daryl Horgan, Alan Browne, Eoin Doyle, Sean Maguire and Kevin O’Connor all on the books. Former Cork City defender O’Connor shot to off-field fame earlier this month when he won the lotto.
However, his opportunities with Preston have been limited.
Today it has been announced that he will join Fleetwood Town for the remainder of the season. The League One outfit are currently 13th in the table, but are 11 points adrift of the promotion play-off places. They will be eager to embed the Irish defender into the side in the coming weeks.
Manager Uwe Rosler was clearly impressed with the new addition.
“Kevin is very talented, he has a great left foot and brings everything we want into the team. We’ve been monitoring him for a while now and are delighted to have him at Fleetwood Town.”
So it all seems like a logical deal, as Fleetwood bolster their squad, and Preston get O’Connor some game-time. The one unusual part of the deal is the manner in which it was announced. Fleetwood released a video of O’Connor playing the lottery, and it was…well, make your own mind up.
