Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is being lined up as a replacement for David de Gea at Manchester United, according to reports.
The Spanish shot-stopper is heavily linked with a return to La Liga this summer to join up with Real Madrid following the much touted deal falling through on deadline day last year.
De Gea has proven to consistently be one of the finest goalkeepers in Europe over the past number of seasons after a shaky start to his career at Old Trafford.
He has collected the Sir Matt Busby Player of The Year award at Manchester United three seasons on the trot, becoming the first player to ever do so. He has also been acknowledged by his Premier League peers and selected in the PFA Team of The Year four times since signing from Atletico Madrid.
Sky Sports have reported that De Gea is expected to complete a move to Zinedine Zidane’s side and that Schmeichel is the man the Red Devils want to replace him with in between the posts.
The 30-year-old only signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League champions at the conclusion of the Foxes’ league-winning season, but has left his long-term management representatives, Triple S Management, to join up with a new agent, Luca Bascherini. The Italian agent is known for having a long running healthy relationship with Man United.
A lucrative offer from Jose Mourinho and co. would be difficult to turn down for the Denmark number one, son of United legend Peter Schmeichel, who’s fondly remembered as one of the club’s best ever keepers.
