Juventus President: Arsenal Wanted To Sell Alexis Sanchez For £34m

Juventus’s president Giuseppe Marotta has made a stunning claim that Arsenal were open to selling Alexis Sanchez for the right price to the Turin club, according to Express.

The Chilean attacker is a fan favourite at the Emirates, and there were serious concerns that the club would lose an instrumental player in the form of Sanchez to the Italian champions for £34m.

And Marotta has revealed that when Juventus asked the London club for their valuation of the 27-year-old, they were more than willing to oblige.

“Sanchez is a great player, but Arsenal told us he is not on the market,” Marotta told Chilean newspaper, El Mercurio.

“We had asked for the player’s price tag and Arsenal valued him at €40m (£34m), a sum that we considered reasonable.

“However, once we replied to their demand, the English club let us know that he was not for sale.”

It would cause Marotta innumerable problems to forge his story, but we can’t think for the life of us why Arsenal would even consider selling Sanchez for that price, let alone mislead Juventus into thinking he was indeed available.

Sanchez has scored 29 goals in 65 appearances for Arsenal after his £31.7m move from Barcelona two years ago and won the player of the tournament at this year’s Copa America, which included a host of stars such as James Rodriguez and Lionel Messi.

Arsene Wenger will be thankful that Sanchez is remaining with the club for now, and is searching for a new forward ahead of the new season.

The Gunners have added Granit Xhaka to solidify their midfield from Borussia Mönchengladbach and Takuma Asano from Sanfrecce Hiroshima, but will require further additions across the board to challenge for the title.
