Some of these numbers are a bit off the wall but the recently released study from the CIES Football Observatory is a very interesting read nonetheless…
Published on Wednesday morning, the study takes into consideration a number of factors before putting a figure on the 100 most valuable players in Europe’s top five Leagues.
Although age is taken into consideration as a key factor in determining a player’s actual worth, Barcelona forward Lionel Messi still tops the list despite the fact that he is now knocking on 30’s door at 29 years of age.
Despite the fact that the ‘best player in the world’ argument has revolved around just two names for the past several years, Cristiano Ronaldo surprisingly finds himself in third position having been overtaken by Leo Messi’s Barcelona teammate Neymar.
Although, seven Premier League stars make the top 20, just three make the top ten with one rather surprising name featuring.
Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane both, somewhat understandably feature with lofty price-tags of €96m and €116m respectively. However, after Manchester United were scoffed at for forking out €80m for 20-year-old Anthony Martial last summer, the forward is listed by the CIES study as the 6th most valuable player in the world.
Despite a pretty shocking season for Chelsea, Eden Hazard makes the top 20 while Alexis Sanchez, Dele Alli and Raheem Sterling also feature.
