Jurgen Klopp Names Bizarre Starting XI For Merseyside Derby As Liverpool & Everton Team News Is In

Liverpool and Everton clash at Anfield today in an eagerly anticipated Merseyside Derby.

Sam Allardyce enters his first derby as Everton boss, having already seen a steadying of the club’s ship since taking the reins recently. Upon his appointment, Everton were worryingly and uncomfortably close to danger at the wrong end of the table and struggling badly under caretaker manager David Unsworth following the sacking of Ronald Koeman earlier in the season on a count of a dismal beginning to the season.

The blue half of Merseyside go into today’s crunch clash in 10th position in the league and appear to be looking up already under Big Sam rather than anxiously over their shoulder.

Liverpool come into the game brimming with confidence. Unbeaten in their last nine games in all competitions, scoring goals for fun, these are exciting times to be a Kop resident. Their most recent outing a 7-0 home thrashing of Spartak Moscow in the Champions League midweek to see them qualify for the knockout stages of the competition as group-toppers.

However, today Jurgen Klopp has named a starting team to face their local rivals which will raise eyebrows and questions aplenty amongst the Anfield faithful and beyond.

The exclusion of the high-flying Phillipe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino from the starting XI will be seen as mind-boggling not only for the Liverpool supporters, but Everton and neutrals alike.

Oxlade-Chamberlain and Solanke respectively replace the duo who, along with Premier League top-scorer Mo Salah, have formed an irresistible attacking trio so far this season. Club captain Jordan Henderson regains his place in the team having sat out the midweek victory in Europe.

Big Sam has named his side to tackle the in-form Reds, with Wayne Rooney named to play in his first Merseyside Derby since his return to Goodison Park this summer.

In a fixture where there is more than just three points on the line, but the pride of the city as well, will Klopp learn to rue his system of rotation?
