Mario Balotelli’s Liverpool nightmare came to an end this week when a last-minute deal saw the Italian finally leave Anfield for pastures new in the south of France, at Ligue 1 side Nice.
26-year-old Balotelli has endured a stunning fall from grace since his hell-raising days at Manchester City, where negative front page press featured as frequently as his on-field antics.
Spells with AC Milan and Liverpool have seen the promise of greatness dramatically fade and despite being a prodigious talent, Balotelli has quickly faded from the memory of football fans.
A surprise move to Nice is regarded as a last chance for the player to rehabilitate a career now firmly in the doldrums.
Now, according to Football Italia, Balotelli’s agent, Mino Raiola, has publicly slammed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for his treatment of the Italian during his time at Anfield.
“At the end of the day the Liverpool directors admitted Klopp was unfair. I won’t judge him as a coach, even if for me he isn’t a great tactician, but I don’t think he realised we were talking about a person. Mario was exemplary, he never complained even when training alone.
“It’s not enough to say Klopp was unfair: he was a piece of s–t.”
Under Klopp, the Italian didn’t feature and this has clearly annoyed Raiola. However, given the German manager’s penchant for an energetic and dynamic style of play, Balotelli’s pure striker’s role was simply not a fit for the Liverpool team under Klopp.
With both parties now having gone their separate ways, it is hoped that the 26-year-old striker can once again find the form that once saw him regarded as one of Europe’s best and in-demand strikers.
