José Mourinho Set To Sell Four Big Names In Order To Revamp Manchester United Squad

José Mourinho has taken Old Trafford by storm this summer, adding Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to his new look Manchester United team. Now, as he looks to revamp Louis van Gaal’s dysfunctional squad, he plans to sell four big names to make room for his new signings.

As part of Mourinho’s plans for United, the players to make way are, according to the Daily Record, Marcus Rojo, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Daley Blind and fan favourite Juan Mata.

Mourinho famously sold Mata to United in 2014 for a club record fee of £37.1 million when he was Chelsea manager and while the Spaniard showed touches of brilliance in the two and half seasons since his arrival at Old Trafford, he has not delivered on his promise or his price tag.

The attacking midfielder, along with the often injured Germany international Bastian Schweinsteiger, are set to make way for Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan as Mourinho looks to clear out many of the expensive additions former United manager Louis van Gaal oversaw during his tenure in charge.

Daley Blind and Marcus Rojo both failed to live up to fans’ expectations following their respective £15 million and €20 million transfers to Old Trafford and now, following injury riddled spells with United, are set to be jettisoned by Mourinho in advance of the new Premier League season.

Reports persist that Mourinho’s fourth signing of the summer is set to Juventus’ star midfielder Paul Pogba, a former United academy graduate who departed for Turin in 2012. With a price tag expected to be in excess of £100 million, whatever proceeds are made from the sale of the aforementioned foursome will go some way to offsetting what is expected to be a world record fee for the 23 year old Pogba.

Though fans might feel aggrieved that Mata, a favourite among supporters, is set to be sold, the sentiment will not be shared for the other expensive failures acquired by Van Gaal.

As Mourinho continues to reshape United in his image, fans will be hoping that the sacrifices made and money spent this summer will see a return of the glory days at Old Trafford. Anything less will be seen as just another costly failure.
