Manchester united could end the season in the top four and with two trophies in the cabinet in what will be deemed a successful first season in the Old Trafford hotseat for Jose Mourinho.
However this summer is expected to once again be dominated by how much Manchester United are spending in the transfer window as Mourinho aims to find the missing pieces of his United jigsaw as they prepare for a realistic title challenge next season.
As reported on ESPN, Mourinho is targeting four summer signings with sources indicating one defender, one midfielder and two strikers will be targeted by the Manchester club.
One of those targets is reported to be Chelsea winger Willian, who has played a bit part role in Antonio Conte’s title challenge with the blues this campaign as he struggles to oust Pedro or the rejuvenated Eden Hazard from the starting XI.
The Brazilan did star in Saturday’s FA Cup Semi Final win over rivals Tottenham, scoring twice to take his tally for the season up to ten in all competitions.
Mourinho is a keen admirer of his former player and referenced him when talking about new players adapting to the demands of a new league when Henrikh Mkhitaryan suffered a slow start to his Manchester United career, with Willian going on to play a key role in Mourinho’s last title win at Stamford Bridge.
The 28-year-old signed for Chelsea in a £32 million deal from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala in August 2013 and now, Mourinho has apparently instructed United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward to sign the player.
Willian may be keen on a reunion with his ex boss with whom he enjoyed a good working relationship. However, getting Chelsea to sell to a rival may prove to be Woodward’s biggest transfer dealing to date.
