José Mourinho Angered By Bastian Schweinsteiger’s Rejection Of Sporting Lisbon Offer [Report]

Manchester United continue to remain active in the transfer market, however focus has turned to offloading players before Wednesday’s 11pm deadline.

In a summer that witnessed the arrival of superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic and world record signing Paul Pogba, it’s fair to say that United have had one of their most successful transfer windows.

Now, in a desperate attempt to slim down the burgeoning midfield roster, manager José Mourinho has sought to offload Bastian Schweinsteiger to Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon on a free transfer.

An injury-blighted season last term saw the 32-year-old fail to secure consistent game time and now with the addition of Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the German no longer features in the manager’s plans.

Such is United’s desire to jettison the World Cup winner, an offer to partly fund the player’s £190,000 per week salary has even been made.

However, in a move that has angered the United manager, it has been reported by the Star that Schweinsteiger has rejected the move, preferring instead to stay and fight for his place.

With the transfer deadline only hours away, United now look set to be stuck with a player who appears to have no playing future at the club but still another two years remaining on his expensive contract.

Not exactly a fitting end to the storied career of one of Europe’s most successful midfielders.
