Heads are going to fly at the Etihad today after the name of John Stones inexplicably appeared on the list, confirming his much-vaunted move.
Everton were holding out for a fee of £50 million and it looks like City have finally coughed it up. The deal will now surely be announced in the coming days ahead of the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
The Sky Blues take on Sunderland this Saturday in Pep Guardiola’s first game as their new manager. With the Newcastle side still rocked by Sam Allardyce’s departure, it surely represents a trouble-free start to the campaign.
Stones, just 22, has come under heavy fire during his short career for his willingness to play the ball out of the defence rather than the “no-nonsense” football that fans are used to. At £50 million, he has a mammoth task in front of him to prove his worth.
