Ireland Winger Aiden McGeady Wins Championship Player Of The Month Award

Castigated and celebrated in equal measure throughout his international career, Aiden McGeady is arguably the Republic of Ireland’s most marmite player when it comes to supporter opinion.

Ahead of Ireland’s qualifying campaign-defining game versus Wales later this month in Dublin, the Scotland-born wideman is, however, seemingly after hitting a new gear on loan from Everton at Preston North End.

This upturn in form has been officially recognised now too, with the former Celtic winger being named the Championship’s player of the month for February.

This accolade comes following some standout performances and goals from McGeady, including this belter against QPR:

Perhaps it was his brace midway through February though which ultimately swung the award for the Ireland international.

These two stunning strikes against Brentford illustrate exactly the type of ingenuity Ireland boss Martin O’Neill will be looking for should McGeady feature against Wales.

Since his arrival to English football in 2014 McGeady has largely stuttered, failing to really break in at Everton before an average loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday, but the 30-year-old seems to have found a new lease of life at Deepdale now.

From an Irish perspective the timing couldn’t be better.
