The Republic of Ireland take on Wales next week looking to maintain momentum in the race to qualify for the World Cup in 2018.
Martin O’Neill’s side have secured three wins from their opening four games so far in this qualification campaign, but know they will have to be at their best to stop Gareth Bale and co. at the Aviva Stadium next Friday.
The last time these two sides met in Ireland was back in 2011 during the inaugural (and presumably the final) Carling Nations Cup tournament in Dublin, which also featured Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Giovanni Trapattoni’s side ended up winning the competition outright, and a 3-0 victory against Wales in the late Gary Speed’s first match in charge of the visitors set them on their way to winning the trophy.
The majority of the starting eleven from that day are still playing – and some are still in around Martin O’Neill’s squad to this day – but can you name how Ireland lined up on that February evening?
