Manchester United clearly have faith in him!
As the entire country of Ireland wait in the wings, braced watch the World Cup from the comfort of our living rooms, the biggest sporting party on the globe will play out in Russia without us. The sense of ‘what-might-have-been’ following the play-off loss to Denmark is a bitter pill to swallow, as Ireland football fans look to the future.
However, there are some reasons for optimism, as the underage teams are producing some promising results.
Among the brightest prospects is Kieran O’Hara. The Ireland U21 keeper has been with Manchester United since 2012, spending large periods out on loan.
Today the club have announced that the 21-year-old has signed a new deal at Old Trafford, keeping him there until 2020. Despite being viewed as the fourth choice ‘keeper at the Red Devils, O’Hara is keen to push on to the next level.
“Since I joined United, it has been everything I expected it to be,” he said. “The club gives you all the guidance that you need from experienced coaches to improve every single day.
“But I know that the hard work has just started and that I need to continue to listen and give everything in training and the matches we have coming up. I know I’m at the right place to continue my development as a young player and I’m thrilled to have signed a new contract.”
It’s great to see Ireland players plying their trade at the biggest clubs, and best of luck to Kieran!
