Ireland manager Martin O’Neill has significantly strengthened the Ireland squad from Thursday night’s 3-1 defeat to Mexico in New Jersey.
As expected, the 19-man collective that travelled to the US has been added to, with nine additions and one withdrawal taking the panel for Sunday’s match in Dublin to 28.
The player in question to drop out is Birmingham’s Stephen Gleeson, Ireland’s goalscorer in the MetLife Stadium, who has left the squad to get married in Portugal.
In terms of additions, the Burnley trio of Robbie Brady, Jeff Hendrick and Stephen Ward all return to the squad, along with Stoke City pair Glenn Whelan and Jonathan Walters, Keiren Westwood, Aiden McGeady, Harry Arter and Jonny Hayes. O’Neill also confirmed that Reading midfielder Stephen Quinn has joined up to train with the squad, but will not be involved this Sunday.
