What a signing Petr Cech has been for Arsenal…
Such has been the level of Petr Cech’s performances for Arsenal this season that many are already arguing that he is now Arsene Wenger’s greatest ever signing.
Whether that is the case or not is beside the point but, the fact that Cech is now even being mentioned in that category shows just how phenomenal an acquisition he has been for the Gunners.
Yesterday, Arsenal headed to the Britannia for a tough fixture against a side that Wenger’s men often have difficulties with. On the day, they left disappointed dropping two points after a 0-0 result.
However, Cech was once again superb for Arsenal and, had it not been for his man of the match performance between the sticks, it is very conceivable that the Londoners would have left with nothing to show for their efforts.
After the game, Theo Walcott revealed that Cech has become an incredible leader in the dressing room and, given his phenomenal experience, the rest of the squad often look to the former Chelsea man for inspiration.
“The mental strength in our dressing room is the strongest it has ever been,” Walcott said speaking to Standard Sport. “When you have the likes of Petr Cech coming in as well, he only enhances that. He has lifted everybody’s heads up, saying this is a very good point and that nobody tends to win here.”
“We just have to look at him because he has been at the top level and won many things so if we have the belief that he has got, we can push on.”
Indeed, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have all lost at the Britannia this season and it may well turn out that Arsenal’s point yesterday will indeed prove to be a ‘good one’.
What is certain however is that, with David De Gea often referred to as the league’s best keeper, the numbers now suggest that Petr Cech is aging like a fine wine and is, at this moment in time, once again the greatest keeper in England’s top flight.
