It looks like Theo Walcott’s injury in the Capital One Cup may have been a blessing in disguise for Arsenal.
This season Olivier Giroud dropped down in the pecking order at the Emirates to become Arsenal’s second choice striker behind Theo Walcott.
However, despite the decision taken by Arsene Wenger, an injury to the pacy Walcott has seen Giroud return to the Arsenal starting 11 and he has been in sensational form of late.
As the Gunners were hammered 5-1 in the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening, the French striker still managed to get on the score sheet as he excellently finished a ball into the box from Alexis Sanchez.
After the game, it was confirmed that Giroud now has 7 goals in his last 7 games for club and country. Although his absence due to Wenger’s preference for Walcott has meant that the France international is far behind Jamie Vardy as the league’s top scorer, another stat has suggested that Giroud is in fact more efficient than any of his peers.
Based on minutes played, Giroud is now the most efficient striker in the Premier League and, having only made five starts for Arsenal this season, he already has six goals in the competition.
