If Barcelona Star Messi’s Injury Problems Continue He Faces A Substantial Injury Layoff

Having only just returned to the international fold following his brief retirement, Lionel Messi is facing a possible four-month layoff having been sent home early from the Argentina camp with a persistent groin injury.

As reported in The Sun, a scan has ruled out any serious damage with the injury unlikely to heal unless the player rests for three to four weeks under doctor’s orders.

With La Liga already underway, the Champions League due to get underway with the visit of Celtic to the Camp Nou next week and with international football now back on Messi’s calendar neither club nor country will want to be without their star man any longer than they have to.

The club, however, according to Marca, have devised four strategies from a clinical study for curing the ongoing problem.

Routes one and two have already not cured the problem while the fourth would see the player undergo surgery, which could keep him out for up to four months.

While questions have been raised over the pressure being put on Messi to continue playing with the risk of further aggravating the injury, president Josep Maria Bartomeu claims everything has been done to ensure the 29-year-old is treated in the correct manner.

Speaking to Catalan radio station RAC1 (via ESPN), Bartomeu said:

“No one has taken unnecessary risks.

“These are things which happen, especially with a footballer who plays as much as Leo.

“We didn’t recommend to the AFA [Argentine Football Association] that they shouldn’t play him in the match against Uruguay.

“We just told them he had discomfort in his groin and attached the medical report.”
