Zlatan Ibrahimovic has gone some way to confirming what now looks like a foregone conclusion by publicly welcoming Manchester United record signing Angel Di Maria to PSG.
Speaking after the Parisian’s penalty shootout loss to Chelsea last night, the Sweden international is quoted by Eurosport as saying:
“Welcome to him [Di Maria]. He will bring his qualities and is a good player.
“With him, the team will be better.”
This follows comments from the boss of the Ligue 1 club, Laurent Blanc, who is quoted in independent.ie as saying there’s “a good possibility” the Argentinian will join the Parc de Princes outfit.
In addition to comments from within the French club, yesterday Louis van Gaal admitted Di Maria had not joined United on their pre-season tour in the USA.
“He was not on the plane, Van Gaal told the BBC.
“Marcos Rojo was also not on the plane. He has had a passport issue – for Angel Di Maria, I don’t know why. I cannot say anything.”
A deal looks to be extremely close now with all signs pointing toward a move to the French capital, with rumours also being bandied about that Di Maria could meet his new team-mates and have a medical as soon as Monday in a £46.5 million deal, according to L’Équipe.
