How The Squad Of Euro 2012 Reacted To Ireland’s Draw With Sweden

Before the Ireland-Sweden game some Irish fans would have taken a 1-1 draw. In hindsight it seems like it was two points lost rather than one point gained.

Regardless of the result, the performance in Paris was a far cry from those we saw in Poland four years ago. The squad of 23 that travelled to France contains just 13 players who made the trip to Poland in 2012.

Those former players, and those who didn’t make the squad were revelling in the atmosphere.

Colorado Rapids teammates Sean St. Ledger and Kevin Doyle were in full support from the Great Plains.

Simon Cox and Darren O’Dea were tweeting a little closer to home.

Even Giovanni Trapattoni’s interpreter got in on the action.

As did Tony O’Donoghue with this ‘banterrific’ exchange with Keith Fahey.

The reaction to the first half showing was extremely positive from the class of 2012.

Wes Holohan’s screamer was also met with enthusiasm.

The reaction at full-time was also filled with positivity despite the frustrating result.

Irish fans have long been optimistic in the face of adversity. Despite the two points gone begging there is certainly cause for optimism.

Italy flexed their muscles last night with a 2-0 demolition of some people’s pre-tournament favourites, Belgium. Irish fans believe that three points against Eden Hazard and co. is entirely possible and it seems the class of 2012 agree.

Italy sit astride the group with three points, ahead of Ireland in second and Sweden in third. The much-fancied Belgians are propping up group E.

Ireland play the Red Devils on Saturday at 2pm in Bordeaux.
