As we slowly edge towards April the rumour mill is once again beginning to pick up pace ahead of the summer transfer window.
We’ve seen many times before how one move can start off a domino effect as clubs look to plug the gaps left by their players’ departures. And one such sequence this term could involve the two Manchester giants, United and City.
According to the Mirror, Citizens boss Pep Guardiola has his eye on Tottenham defender Danny Rose, who is set to cost City £50 million. This mooted deal would in turn lead to Manchester United’s Luke Shaw making his way south to Spurs as a replacement for the 26-year-old.
While we are still a fair way away from the summer window opening, this sequence of events is not too implausible when one considers that Shaw has been shoved to the periphery of Jose Mourinho’s plans, playing the full 90 minutes in the league just four times this season.
Add to this that the above report states City would be willing to double Rose’s wages, albeit with the England international having just penned a new deal at White Hart Lane.
Should all the pieces of this complex jigsaw fall into place though, this would be a great move for Shaw whose promising career has stalled of late. Joining another top Premier League club would not represent any major step backwards and with Rose departing he would be guaranteed a look-in at the very least.
For Rose this move would not only make financial sense, but in footballing terms he would be joining a team which next season is likely to come back stronger and challenge for the title.
We’re a long way from the summer yet but these potential moves already look to make a lot of sense for the players involved.
