Hibernian And Rangers Play Out Crazy Ten-Goal Thriller At Easter Road

Hibernian and Rangers left it to the last day to play out the most exciting – yet ridiculous – game of the Scottish Premiership season.

The two sides played out a crazy 5-5 draw at Easter Road, with goals flying in at both ends throughout.

With a place in the Europa League to aim for Hibs needed a big victory over Rangers to overtake them in the table right at the death. Indeed, they made the perfect start to that endeavour by racing into a 3-0 lead in the opening 22 minutes through Florien Kamberi, Scott Allan. Jamie Maclaren.

However, Rangers pulled two back through James Tavernier and Jordan Rossiter within three minutes, and drew level five minutes before half time through a fine free kick from Bruno Alves.

The visitors turned the game completely on its head ten minutes after the restart when Jason Holt made it 4-3, and must have thought they had done enough for the win when Josh Windass added a fifth with 20 minutes remaining.

Hibs hit back immediately through Maclaren’s second, though, setting it up for a grandstand finale. Neil Lennon’s side pushed hard for the equaliser, and, incredibly, made it 5-5 in injury time as Maclaren swooped in to fire home his hat-trick.

The home crowd (and bench erupted) and although it wasn’t enough to topple Rangers in the European places, it was a superb show of resilience by the side. There was even time for a red card in among the goals, as Holt was sent off for a second bookable offence five minutes from time.

For Rangers, Aberdeen’s victory over Celtic at Parkhead meant that they were guaranteed to finish third in the table regardless of their own result (assuming they didn’t lose heavily).
