Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson Posts Message Of Support For Irish Assault Victim

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has posted a message of support for the fan attacked by several Roma supporters on Tuesday night.

53-year-old Sean Cox from Co. Meath remains in a critical condition at Walton Neurological Centre following the assault outside Anfield ahead of that evening’s Champions League clash, an attack that led to two Italian nationals (aged 25 and 26) being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Taking to social media after the match itself, Henderson, who played the full 90 minutes in the Premier League side’s victory, published a statement on Instagram wishing Mr. Cox well and passing on a message of support on behalf of the rest of the Liverpool squad.

“The thoughts and prayers of all the players are with the Liverpool fan who is currently very poorly in hospital, after being badly hurt ahead of our game last night.

“He came to watch a football match and support our team – the only result that matters to us now is that he recovers and can return home to be with his family and loved ones.

“You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Liverpool, Roma and UEFA have all released statements conveying their shock and anger that this has happened, and the respective police departments are now working to ensure that there are no ugly scenes in the return leg at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome next week.
