Jose Mourinho is planning to overhaul United’s squad in the coming months.
Jose Mourinho is evidently frustrated at Manchester United’s start to the season. Results have not gone the way of the Portuguese manager, and his squad have been hit with a number of injuries particularly in defence.
While Mourinho’s treatment of Henrikh Mkhitaryan is inexplicable, the Manchester United manager has also come to rely on the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young and Morgan Schneiderlin since taking charge.
Players who have struggled to impress since arriving at Old Trafford under David Moyes or Louis van Gaal.
Consequently, it comes as little surprise to see up to eight players being linked with moves away from United, either in the coming January transfer window or next summer.
If Mourinho manages to off-load the likes of Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger and possibly even Wayne Rooney, he will not only generate revenue to fund further transfer activity, but free-up a great deal of United’s wage budget.
Therefore it didn’t come as too much of a surprise to see Guillem Balague confirm United’s interest Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez.
Although the 21 year-old Uruguayan defender finds himself behind both Stefan Savic and Diego Godin in Diego Simeone’s pecking order, Balague told Sky Sports Atletico will demand United meet Gimenez’s 65 million release clause.
A fairly hefty price tag, but United have been poor at the back in recent weeks, and are in desperate need of some reinforcements in order to challenge for a place in next season’s Champions League.
