After months of speculation, Antoine Griezmann has finally come to a decision on his club future.
Being away on international duty with France at the World Cup was not enough to quell the speculation, made all the worse when the Atletico Madrid forward revealed that he would be announcing his plans in a televised segment later that evening – in a similar manner to LeBron James’ infamous “Decision” announcement in 2010.
After a needlessly elaborate and lengthy 45-minute video piece detailing the past few months of Griezmann’s career (complete with shots of anguish and plenty of pensive looks), it was finally confirmed that the striker would be staying at the Wanda Metropolitano, rather than seek a move to Barcelona (as had been mooted).

Griezmann, however, was savaged on social media for the manner in which this whole thing was put together, particularly with France’s World Cup campaign beginning on Saturday,

I quite like Griezmann, and I’m not a wide-eyed romantic or anything, but the timing of this – like the Bale and Ronaldo stuff after the CL final – is ridiculous, and appears to be something of a depressing trend. https://t.co/v35HCfnF0v

Moving past that unpleasantness, with Atletico already having confirmed an agreement to sign Monaco forward Thomas Lemar, Diego Simeone’s side are going to have an even more formidable frontline next season.
