‘This Has Gone Too Far’ – Journalists Weigh In On Whether Jamie Carragher Should Be Sacked By Sky

With Jamie Carragher’s future at Sky seemingly up in the air, several journalists and pundits weighed in on whether or not the former Liverpool defender should keep his job.

Making his journey home after covering Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, Jamie Carragher found himself in a bizarre altercation with a Manchester United fan.

Clearly attempting to wind up or ‘banter’ with the Sky pundit, the fan began to repeatedly shout the final scoreline in Carragher’s direction before the 40-year-old suddenly snapped.

In the days that followed, Carragher has issued multiple apologies to those involved while Sky has taken the decision to indefinitely suspend their star pundit from his duties.

Speaking about the incident on Sky News on Monday afternoon, Carragher described his behaviour as a ‘moment of madness’ while the pundit also acknowledged that he had let himself and his family down.

You can’t obviously condone that behaviour no matter what; In any way shape or form, where you are, who you represent,” said Carragher. “I’ve let Sky Sports down, my family and the family involved.

“It was a moment of madness, it’s difficult for me to explain. It’s just that moment of madness for four or five seconds. No matter the circumstances, you can’t ever behave like that.

“To be honest, again, why did you react, I asked myself? That’s part of being a public figure. It’s the only time, I’ve reacted like that, will ever react like that. I’ve got no excuse…

“It is my biggest regret of course, but all I can do right now is apologise. I can’t go back. Hopefully, they accept that. I’d like to apologise once more to them all.”

The incident has since received a huge reaction online and although many feel that Carragher should permanently lose his position with Sky Sports, it seems the majority of pundits feel that he should be afforded a second chance.
