Steven Gerrard Posts Classy Goodbye Message To LA Galaxy Upon Departure

After 18 months with the MLS side, LA Galaxy confirmed on Tuesday that Steven Gerrard would be leaving the club.

Gerrard joined Galaxy from Liverpool in summer 2015 with the pursuit of MLS Cup glory his main aim. However, that dream did not become a reality and the 36-year-old leaves the StubHub Center with five goals in 38 appearances to his name.

The former England international heavily hinted at the weekend that his time in the US was coming to an end, and he posted a follow-up message on Instagram after Galaxy had made the new public, thanking the club and its fans for the last 18 months.

When I left Liverpool, I came to Los Angeles with the goal of helping the Galaxy lift another MLS Cup, I am of course disappointed to have not achieved that objective, but I can look back at my time at the club with pride at what we accomplished, including two straight playoff appearances and countless memorable moments on the pitch. As someone who spent the whole of their career in Liverpool, it has been an incredible experience to come to Los Angeles and play for the LA Galaxy. I would like to thank Mr. Anschutz, Dan Beckerman, Chris Klein and Bruce Arena for this opportunity. I would also like to thank my teammates, the coaching staff, all of the support staff and most importantly the fans for their fantastic support during my time at Galaxy; I am excited to see this league and this great club continue to grow. I am now looking forward to spending time with my family as I consider the next stage of my career .

Speculation surrounding Gerrard’s next move is now set to intensify over the coming weeks. The door is open for him at former club Liverpool (but only in a non-playing role), while a number of Premier League clubs (and Celtic) would surely be interested in signing the midfielder.
