After a number of shocking performances for Manchester United this season, over the weekend, Jose Mourinho finally made the decision to drop Wayne Rooney from his starting XI vs Leicester City.
It was a decision that the media had been demanding for weeks. However, after Jose Mourinho pulled the trigger on the massive dropping, the Portuguese manager was inevitably asked to explain himself. Although the so-called ‘Special One’ tried to play down the decision as if it was no big deal, in truth, it may well have been a turning point in Rooney’s career.
United put in their best performance of the season by some distance against Leicester and, with Rooney absent, it seemed as if many of the other under performing figures excelled.
Speaking ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Leicester City on Saturday morning, Gary Neville spoke at length about Rooney’s situation and how the English forward will have to adapt as he moves into the twilight of his career.
However, for Neville, the knee jerk reaction that Rooney is finished at the age of 31 and should already be looking for a money move to the MLS obviously seems absurd.
Check out Neville’s excellent analysis of Rooney’s current situation at United along with a very baffled reaction to Graham Souness’ suggestion that the forward should already be looking for a move to the MLS below;
