Former Manchester United winger Andrei Kanchelskis has launched a vicious attack at the brand of football Louis van Gaal is deploying at Old Trafford.
Over the past three decades, Manchester United became famed for their swash-buckling attack orientated approach to the game. There was something devil-may-care about their philosophy that was both enthralling and brilliant all at once and it is for this reason that United have become the global brand that they are today.
However, since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, something has changed and at present, United are about as entertaining as a trip to the dentist.
Speaking about the change of approach at Old Trafford, former Manchester United winger Andrei Kanchelskis had some strong words for current Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal.
“The first game against CSKA showed that it’s possible to win against this team,” Kanchelskis said speaking to Sport Express in preview of United’s clash with the Russian side this evening.
“I was at the stadium and I was surprised how disgustingly United played in the first half. A lot of ball control but no sharpness at all.”
“It’s in the history and tradition of Man United to play wide and be sharp at the flanks but there is nothing like this now”
“Van Gaal is too pragmatic, his footballers play like robots. They are kept within a strict framework, they are not allowed to improvise, contrary to what Ferguson allowed us to do.”
“Van Gaal, of course, is a good coach but, in my opinion, he is not for Manchester United. I’m looking at his game for the second season now.”
