Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio has news of an unusual appointment in Manchester City’s new backroom staff.
After spending much of his career in England, with Everton and later Arsenal, Mikel Arteta looks set to remain in the Premier League despite retiring at the end of last season. Di Marzio reports that the former club captain for the Gunners will be incoming City manager, Pep Guardiola’s assistant.
Arteta scored 14 goals during his time in North London, making over one hundred appearances. As his playing career was winding down, he started earning his coaching badges and has been linked with positions in both City and even Tottenham’s coaching staff.
Arteta started his career at Barcelona before spending time at Paris Saint Germain, Rangers and Real Sociedad before coming to Everton.
He will join up with Guardiola as the former Barcelona coach looks to do what none of his predecessors could manage, bring a Champions League trophy to the blue half of Manchester.
