Liverpool have made incredible strides under the guidance of Jürgen Klopp – and now the title is a realistic ambition for the club.
The Reds opening weekend victory over Arsenal set the tone for what has been a sensational season to date, with Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino striking fear into the minds of every defence that they face in the Premier League.
However, some have pointed out that Klopp’s men lack some creativity on the wider flanks, so the Liverpool Echo have created a list of five candidates that could possibly become the club’s latest signing in January.
They’ve opted for Borussia Dortmund’s American sensation Christian Pulisic as the man Klopp should identify as Liverpool’s prime target.
The eighteen-year-old has wowed the thousands watching on in the Bundesliga, assimilating himself effortlessly into Thomas Tuchel’s Dortmund-style, and in truth it is unlikely that the German club will part with the teen sensation for anything less than an extortionate fee.
Another option for Liverpool, according to the Echo, is Jakub Blaszczykowski. At thirty years old, the Polish wide man showed he still has an abundance of talent at his disposal during the European Championships in France.
He only joined Wolfsburg in the summer, but the lure of playing Premier League football could be tempting, as would a reunion with Klopp.
Arda Turan has been described as the “thoughtful choice” – the Turk was a supreme force for Atletico Madrid, but having to wait six months to appear for Barcelona after signing for them in the summer of 2015 has seemed to stagnate the career of a once wonderful player.
Turan’s Turkey then crashed out at the group stage of Euro 16, so a fresh start is likely needed for the 30-year-old.
If you’ve heard of Luciano Narsingh, you probably know about his overwhelming pace – and he is the cheaper option that the Echo have earmarked as a viable acquisition for Liverpool.
Aged twenty-six, Narsingh’s contract is expiring next year and he has so far been reluctant negotiations to sign a new deal.
The PSV star would more than likely be an addition in order to increase squad depth, but at the same time it would be far from a poor signing.
Finally, the Echo’s “Bundesliga’s choice” is one exciting young player. The man in question is Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt, who has been eye-catching to say the least for Roger Schmidt’s men in Germany’s top flight and in Europe in the 2016/17 campaign.
Brandt, 20, has already been hailed as one of Germany’s brightest hopes of the future and is lethal playing in a front three, which would suit Liverpool.
Pulisic of Dortmund or Brandt would be the most expensive moves for Klopp to make in the transfer market, and needless to say the most difficult, but either would significantly bolster Liverpool’s creative options on the flanks.
