Barry Dempsey takes a look at this weekend’s Premier League fixtures and gives his top five picks to improve your fantasy team.
1. Toby Alderweireld
The Belgian defender is an absolute bargain at £5.5m. He is a points machine at the moment, having kept two clean sheets in a row, and with West Brom coming up he is definitely worth a punt.
2. Christian Benteke
Surely a must have; Benteke is another Belgian who is going well and could reap the rewards this weekend against a Newcastle team who seem to have contracted a serious case of defensive amnesia.
Liverpool are playing West Brom and Watford after Newcastle so this weekend could be the start of a good run for him.
3. Mesut Ozil
They say form is temporary and class is permanent, and they may be right, but they don’t say anything about what happens when you’ve got both.
A total of 26 points in his last three games and with Sunderland coming to the Emirates, Ozil is a seriously good candidate for captain this weekend.
4. Asmir Begovic
I don’t normally recommend using precious transfers on goalkeepers, but if you are in the hunt for one for this weekend then you could do worse than Asmir Begovic.
Life for Chelsea hasn’t been easy recently, however there have been signs of a recovery. With Thibaut Courtois out at the moment with a knee injury, Begovic has kept two clean sheets in his last two games. Bournemouth are the visitors this weekend to Stamford Bridge and I would fancy the big Bosnian to make it a hat-trick.
5. Odion Ighalo
Odion Ighalo ticks all the boxes when you are looking for a good transfer. He is cheap at only £5.8m, he is on form – netting twelve points for himself last weekend against Aston Villa – and Watford’s upcoming fixtures are versus Norwich and Sunderland respectively.
Then why oh why have only 23% of people picked him in their fantasy team? Answers on a postcard please.
