The highest profile transfer rumour this month so far has undoubtedly been the story of Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean forward will see his contract with Arsenal run out this summer. After early interest from Manchester City and Chelsea, Manchester United emerged as the frontrunners to gain his services before the end of the month.
However, the Gunners were reluctant to end up empty-handed, and United proposed a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Following Arsenal’s win over Crystal Palace today, Arsene Wenger stressed the need for all parties to agree for any deal to take place.
“The deal happens only one way, if the other way happens as well, that’s why it takes longer as well because it has to be co-ordinated.
“I expect it to happen. In the next 48 hours it will be decided.”
In recent days, the Armenian was believed to be reluctant to head to the Emirates. According to a report by the BBC this evening, this obstacle has now been cleared, as Mkhitaryan has agreed to the move. It is believed that medicals will take place in the coming days.
This is a straight swap deal with no money changing hands. The deal is expected to come through in the coming days as Sanchez heads for Old Trafford.
