The news that has shocked the football world tonight is that Borussia Dortmund has suspended star forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for ‘internal reasons’.
The Gabon international is widely regarded as one of the best players in world football and was constantly linked with a move to some of Europe’s elite earlier this summer, with Champions League winners Real Madrid among those reported to want the former Saint-Etienne star.
Aubameyang was due to be involved in Dortmund’s Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon tonight but was withdrawn and replaced by Adrian Ramos minutes before kick off.
“It is an internal issue and will remain an internal issue,” coach Thomas Tuchel said.
BVB’s chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke told local media that the player’s suspension would only be a temporary one.
“The internal reasons are exactly that, internal,” Watzke said. “I will not say anything. But the good thing is he will be fresh against Hamburg. He will be back in the squad against Hamburg.”
