The draw for the FAI Cup second round has taken place during RTE’s Soccer Republic on Monday evening.
With eight Premier Divison teams, four First Divison teams and four non-league sides remaining it was finely poised to produce some intriguing ties and it did not disappoint in that regard.
Shocks were in short supply in the last round despite the four top tier exits. Derry City and Bray Wanderers fell to last season’s finalists Dundalk and Cork City respectively, while Finn Harps knocked out Bohemians and Longford Town overcame Sligo Rovers after extra time. Non-league sides Crumlin United, Bluebell United, Bangor Celtic and Cobh Wanderers were all hoping for glamour ties, meanwhile, as they progressed to the last sixteen.
In that regard, Crumlin United at home to Dundalk is an immediate standout.
Holders Cork City, meanwhile, will host First Division Athlone Town.
Shelbourne v Shamrock Rovers
Bangor Celtic v Longford Town
St. Patrick’s Athletic v Galway United
Cork City v Athlone Town
Limerick v Finn Harps
Bluebell United v Cabinteely
Drogheda United v Cobh Wanderers
Crumlin United v Dundalk
The ties will take place over the course of the weekend of Friday the 25th to Sunday the 27th of August.
