With just eight teams remaining in this year’s FAI Cup, we’re fast approaching the business end of the competition.
Shocks were in relatively short supply over the weekend as sixteen became eight, with the exception of Leinster Senior League side Bluebell United seeing off the challenge of First Division outfit Cabinteely at Stradbrook. Their reward for that impressive result is a shot at an even bigger scalp in Shamrock Rovers.
Elsewhere, Longford Town overcame Bangor Celtic to take their place in a group that is otherwise filled with Premier Division teams. Cork City took Athlone Town apart at Turner’s Cross, Dundalk saw off a spirited effort from Crumlin United, Drogheda enjoyed a morale-boosting 5-1 win against Cobh Wanderers, ten-man Shamrock Rovers came away from Tolka Park with victory over Shelbourne, Galway also got an away win at St. Patrick’s Athletic, and Limerick were the last team to join the party with a win against Finn Harps.
The quarter final draw, in addition to the tie mentioned above, sees Longford Town hosting Neale Fenn’s former club Cork City, Galway United will host Limerick and Dundalk and Drogheda United renewing their local rivalry at Oriel Park.
FAI Cup Quarter-Final Draw in Full:
Longford Town v Cork City
