The Toffees haven’t enjoyed the best of starts. What could Everton possibly want for Christmas?
It’s Christmas time and in the run up to January let us ponder what Everton fans should be asking for.
1. Keep the squad together
James McCarthy has been linked with Arsenal and Seamus Coleman and Ross Barkley are in a perpetual state of transfer speculation given their talent. Martinez will need to keep the core group together if they are to salvage their season.
Martinez’ men have been rather lack lustre so far. But if there was ever a manager to take his team on a late in the season run of form it’s Roberto. That’s why it’s so important he keeps the team together. Salvaging their season will be tough, doing so without key men would be impossible.
2. The return of ‘Tiny Tim’?
Tim Cahill wants to come back to Everton during the MLS off-season but do they want him? Cahill could certainly do a job still as he never really relied on pace during his time in England. the Toffees are always a couple of bodies short and with Barkley having an injury plagued season someone like Cahill playing behind the forwards could be just whats needed to grind out some wins.
3. More midfield support?
They’ve been linked with a couple of ‘outcasts’ for want of a better word. Chelsea’s Mohammed Salah and Arsenal’s Joel Campbell are both linked with loan moves to provide some much needed wing support to Everton’s attack. The Blues haven’t really been able to play things through the middle with barkley absent for so long. They need to capitalise on the fact that Lukaku is a) HUGE b) pacey and good on the ball. Everton have not scored enough this season and need to do more with what they have upfront.
