To the naked eye, Mesut Ozil isn’t exactly having a mind blowing Euro 2016 campaign. He’s already missed two penalties and has rarely stood out as the star man in his German side.
However, with Germany heading into a European Championship semi-final against France this Thursday, the stats have once again proven that Ozil’s brilliance often goes unnoticed to the average football fan.
Having turned out for ‘Die Mannschaft’ in all five games so far, Ozil has bagged just one goal and one assist. However, he has a whopping pass accuracy rate of 89% and whoscored.com revealed on Monday that the Arsenal man (not known for his tackling ability) has incredibly won possession in the final third more times than any other player at the tournament.

After his goal against Italy, it was also revealed that the Arsenal man is now the only German player to have scored in all of the last four major international tournaments that Germany have played in.

Although new signing Granit Xhaka has already been eliminated from the tournament, the former Borussia Moenchengladbach star also set the statisticians into overdrive with some phenomenal showings at Euro 2016.
With Aaron Ramey, although suspended from the semi-finals, also setting the tournament on fire with some awe inspiring performances, it seems Arsenal fans can look forward to the prospect of a mouth watering midfield next season.
