West Bromwich Albion are looking for their first Premier League victory since August, and have made the perfect start against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Alan Pardew’s side are languishing at the bottom of the table having gone a staggering 20 league games without a win, but that could be bout to change at the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.
Centre-back Jonny Evans was the early hero as he put the Baggies in front with just four minutes on the clock. Jay Rodriguez flicked a corner across the face of goal and Evans appeared at the back post from nowhere to power the ball at speed past Brighton goalkeeper Maty Ryan.
That being said, serious questions have to be asked of the visitors’ marking for the corner…
With intense speculation regarding the Northern Ireland international’s future, many will wonder if this proves to be his final goal for West Brom (it is, incidentally, just his fifth for the club). Arsenal and Manchester City are reported to be battling it out for the 30-year-old’s signature this month having been thwarted in the summer, while Pardew has regularly said that every player has his price and a deal could be possible.
While victory wouldn’t be enough to take West Brom out of the relegation zone immediately, it would be a massive confidence boost as they move towards the business end of the season.
At the time of writing, the score remains 1-0 to West Brom against Chris Hughton’s men.
