Reports emanating from Italy suggest out-of-favour Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge could be moving to Milan this summer.
Sturridge’s future will be discussed in crisis talks with manager Jurgen Klopp at the end of this season. This could see the underused striker depart Anfield, with a possible destination as yet unknown.
Calciomercato reports AC Milan are aware of this situation and are closely monitoring developments. But if Sturridge is made available, Milan are set to pounce with an offer for him. They see the England man as a replacement for Carlos Bacca, who could be set to depart the Serie A club in the near future.
Sturridge joined Liverpool from Chelsea for around £12 million in January 2013 and has scored 59 goals in 113 appearances for them. However, he has been used sparingly by Klopp after falling down the pecking order. Restricted game time has seen him struggle to make an impact and he has found the net just twice in the league in this campaign.
Despite that lack of game time and several injuries in recent seasons, there will be no shortage of offers. His goal scoring ability is well documented and he is known for excellent pace and technique. He’s a full international, having been capped 25 times for his country, and would be available for a fee of around £30 million.
PSG were reportedly interested in a loan deal for Sturridge in January, although Liverpool wouldn’t agree to such a move. There have also been reports of interest from West Ham United and the super-rich Chinese Super League.
Any talks of a deal will have to wait until the summer. A recent report in the Telegraph quoted the Liverpool boss as saying:
“I have no idea what happens in the summer. It is not only Daniel but a lot of players.
“Daniel was not in training for eight or nine days because of a virus infection. We have to bring him back to the best shape possible and then bring this season to an end as successfully as possible.
“Then we will make decisions and speak about Daniel and any other players about what will happen at the end of the season.
“A lot of things will influence this and we can speak about it when it is time.”
