Oh not this again… Arsene Wenger has once again been linked with signing Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
Arsenal have been linked with signing the striker many times in the last couple of years, particularly last summer when a move to the Emirates was looking almost inevitable for the Frenchman. In fact, towards the close of the 2015 summer window, multiple reports even claimed that Benzema was in the process of completing an Arsenal medical.
However, despite the fact that the move never came to pass and the fact that Arsenal fans hate hearing about Benzema as much as Manchester United fans hate hearing about Wesley Sneijder, the rumour has once again been rebooted on Thursday afternoon.
According to El Confidencial, Real Madrid are targeting Bayern Munich super striker Robert Lewandowski and if the Spanish Giants can lure the polish star to the Bernabeu then, apparently, Wenger will have a green light to sign Benzema.
The 28-year-old scored 28 goals in 36 appearances last season, winning his second Champions League title in the process.
Karim Benzema did not take part in Euro 2016 due to a controversy which allegedly saw Benzema blackmailing fellow French player Mathieu Valbeuna with some form of sex tape.
Arsenal are in desperate need of reinforcements in the forward role however, and with Jamie Vardy snubbing a move to the Emirates, if El Confidencial’s report is to be believed, this could be a real opportunity for the Gunners to finally secure themselves a world class striker.
