Eamon Dunphy couldn’t hide his love for Marouane Fellaini after the Belgium midfielder’s performance on Thursday night.
The Manchester United man turned in a decent showing during the World Cup victory over England, one that secured Roberto Martinez’s side top spot in the group, and it certainly left an impression on the RTE Sport analyst.
Dunphy described Fellaini as a “warrior” and marked him out as a player he really admires:
“He’s a real warrior. He gets stuck in and he’s got skill. He’s so honest and sticks at the task.
“He’s a remarkable nuisance, and I mean that in a complimentary way.
“You’d hate to have him playing against you. He’s amazing and someone I really admire.
“Manchester United are going to give him a new contract…I think Jose Mourinho has figured out it’s better to have in your team than against you.”
“I wouldn’t necessarily want him in my starting XI, but I admire him.”

Fellaini hasn’t exactly been an overly popular figure at Manchester United since arriving from Everton in a £27m deal in 2013. Indeed, it was expected that the 30-year-old would be leaving the club this summer as he had previously failed to agree terms on a new contract with the Premier League side – a prospect that fans weren’t exactly distraught about.
However, manager Jose Mourinho is, like Dunphy. a big fan of the midfielder, and reports this week suggested that a compromise has been reached and Fellaini now looks set to stay at Old Trafford on a two-year deal, rather than move to reported suitors AC Milan or Arsenal.
