Ahead of Saturday’s game against Arsenal at the Emirates, Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been hinting about a possible return to his former club in an interview with the Times.
Fabregas left Arsenal under controversial circumstances to join Barcelona in 2011, and Arsene Wenger turned down the opportunity to re-sign the midfielder in 2014 before his return to the Premier League with Chelsea.
Wenger was reported in the Telegraph as saying he had no regrets about passing up the deal.
He said: “I have no regrets that Fabregas [joined Chelsea]. My only regret is that he left us in the first place.”
“It was strange to see Cesc in a Chelsea shirt. We have to accept that players move. It was difficult for me to see him leave but we accept he moved,”
Fabregas’s interview prior to tomorrow’s match has certainly raised the eyebrows of a few Gunners supporters.
“It’s a special fixture because I’ve lived moments there that I’ve never lived in my career,” Fabregas told The Times.
“It’s a very special place for me and that’s it. No matter what I hear or what they say to me, Arsenal will always be a fantastic, special club in my heart.
“They gave me absolutely everything and I will repeat it until I die, no matter what, they will always be in my heart.”
The Spaniard is yet to start a game for Antonio Conte’s side this season, despite a number of impressive cameo displays.
