Defoe To QPR Deal Is Far From Deffo.

Harry Redknapp is hopeful that his QPR side will be able to attract an unsettled Jermain Defoe away from FC Toronto in January.

The R’s manager is hopeful that the London club will secure the services of the 32-year-old, but insists that a deal hasn’t been reached.

The London Evening Standard yesterday reported that Defoe had joined his former manager at Rangers, in a deal worth an estimated £900,000, but Redknapp was quick to deny the report.

“No, I don’t think anything is anywhere near being concluded with Jermain,

“We tried to get Jermain before the deadline, but I don’t think there is any movement on that one at the moment.”

Redknapp did concede that talks with Toronto in the New Year are a possibility.

“I am a fan of Jermain’s, I have signed him enough times! He is a goalscorer and obviously a player you would like at your club, if possible, but the figures would have to be right.

“He is a player I am sure we would be interested in, in January.

“It depends on the expense of it all and what the deal is. Tony would deal with that, so it’s up to him.”

The England striker signed from Tottenham in January for FC Toronto after being persuaded to move to Canada by Toronto’s then-manager Ryan Nelsen, a former team-mate of Defoe’s at Spurs.

The former Pompey player has been unsettled at the club since Nelsen was sacked in August and it is understood he is eager to make the move back to England in January.
